Smart home tech has grown from simple plugs and bulbs into complete ecosystems that tie every room together. Home Depot’s exclusive Hubspace 2.0 platform is designed to give homeowners a painless path into home automation while keeping budgets in check. The latest update extends the platform from stand alone smart products into a seamless network of switches, lights and locks that work in concert and are managed from a single app.
What makes Hubspace 2.0 different
Hubspace 2.0 is built around Hubspace Connect technology, which allows smart switches and dimmers on different electrical circuits to communicate directly with compatible lights. Unlike most smart bulbs, which lose power – and therefore their “smart” functions – when someone flips the wall switch, Hubspace sends digital commands straight to the lights. That means you can still control your lights with a phone or voice assistant even if a physical switch has been turned off. Because the devices communicate over your existing wiring, there’s no need to rip out walls or add a separate hub.
Features that go beyond simple on/off control
Hubspace 2.0 isn’t just about keeping lights online; it adds clever features that make your lighting more responsive and secure:
- Vacation Mode – If you’re away for a few days, the system can randomly cycle lights and smart plugs to create the illusion that someone is home. Varying the timing each day makes the pattern look natural, adding an extra layer of security while you’re travelling.
- Circadian Lighting – For a healthier living space, Hubspace automatically shifts color temperatures throughout the day. Cool white tones at midday help you stay alert, while warm, amber light in the evening signals your body to wind down.
- Warm Dimming – Dimming no longer makes your room look washed out. As you reduce brightness, the light’s color temperature warms automatically, mimicking the cosy glow of an old fashioned incandescent bulb.
- Logarithmic Brightness Control – Human eyes perceive changes in light intensity on a logarithmic scale. Hubspace’s dimmers are calibrated to match that perception, so transitions feel smooth and natural instead of jumping from bright to dark.
Because all of these settings are controlled in the Hubspace app, you can experiment with modes and tweak them to suit your routine. You don’t need separate apps for each brand of light or plug; everything is controlled from one place.
New hardware and partnerships
To complement these software features, Home Depot is expanding the range of Hubspace enabled products. At CES 2026 the company announced a collaboration with Kwikset, known for secure residential locks, to deliver an affordable smart lock powered by Hubspace. Other forthcoming additions include thermostats and outdoor timers built with chips from Texas Instruments, ensuring reliability and a U.S.–sourced supply chain. With more than 200 Hubspace compatible items already on offer, there are products to fit every room and budget, from stylish smart pendants to heavy duty outdoor lighting.
Why upgrade now
Smart homes used to be complicated, but Hubspace 2.0 strips away that complexity. A typical installation involves scanning a QR code, adding the device in the app and connecting it to WiFi. From there, you can adjust schedules, group lights by room and integrate with popular voice assistants for hands free control. Since Hubspace is sold exclusively at Home Depot, you can pick up everything you need in one place and know the products are designed to work together. That means there’s an easy upgrade path whether you’re swapping out a single light switch or planning a full home makeover.
